04.04.09 is this really what it is like to be happy?!?!?!
So today was just like any other Saturday. I went to center city and went to the bank, the salvation army store, and trader joes. then went back down to south philly to get my pd measured at the optometrist. when i got home i unloaded some stuff and had some yogurt, granola and strawberries. YUMMY! i love breakfast! then i left walked to goodwill, jo-mar and target for some work things and some zone bars. on my walk down dickenson, i saw a man on the corner of the street do the most amazing thing ever! okay here it is....

-man comes walking south on 10th to dickenson. he screams with his deep manly voice 'AHHHHHHH!!!!!'
-wife walks past him with a disgruntled look and says 'what did you do that for?'
-man stands there and says 'it was a primal yell......... a primal yell' and then he looks around to see if anyone was looking or paying any attention to him

okay the entire time, i was minding my own business walking on the other side of dickenson and listening to my ipod, but i can hear everything that is going on. When i heard him yell and say that it was a primal yell... i could not help but have this big ass grin on my face for about 15 minutes. It was truly a great moment here in philly for me...... I think i am finally happy?!?!?! if this is what it is supposed to feel like. :P
then walking down front street, some girl was cursing on the top of her lungs to a little girl no more then 5 years old about her not being her mom and she shouldn't have to do this. ummm.... Philly is AMAZING! and has the bestest quality of people here EVER!!!

03.29.09 white hot chocolate mistake
so today i did my sunday ritual. church and then a white hot chocolate at B2. When the girl gave me my drink i took a sip of it and it did not taste like white hot chocolate cuz it had coffee in it. Kinda expecting to have white hot chocolate i was really delighted in the very mild coffee taste. I was just gonna leave and just enjoy the coffee but i had to ask her what it was even though she made a mistake. When i asked her what it was she looked at me in bewilderment and said it is white chocolate mocha. well obviously she apologized for making the mistake and said she will make me my hot chocolate and i said it was okay....blah blah blah... but there is expresso in it....blah blah blah....no worries... its fine. Anywho... very long story short.... i think i found my coffee drink! white chocolate mocha! YUMMY!!!!!!

BOO lost a really cute tank!

03.12.09 uno and arm wrestling
so we just got a letter from the president of the company saying that no one is going to get raises this year. BUT we can still conduct reviews...informally if you want to. after reading the letter i felt just terrible for everyone, i mean i have only been there 3 1/2 months but the other girls that have been there for more then a year and have not seen a raise yet and were probably promised one come reviews..... I know we are in a recession but at the same time there are tons of girls in the office that were counting on the raises to help pay for bills. It just sucks all around, the company wants to conserve the money it already has. but hey at the end of the day we all have jobs. just be thankful but at the same time we all have to look our for ourselves.
well tidbits about today.... work is obviously boring. Running around getting approvals, in meetings and fittings and trying to mock in between. I tried to mock today but there were no forms available to use cuz everyone in the office is trying to make mocks for the monthly meeting next Wednesday. But Courtney and I have this meeting and our trans body meeting to mock for. It is kinda stressful and tiring..... weekend plans..... umm... mocking! Fingers crossed for uber cute knock-offs. What i was working on today was an asymmetrical top with chainmail trim.... kinda cheezy you might think.. but not so bad.... if it doesn't get picked up..i am def posting a photo up..... cuz i had to break out my pattern making skills for this one (ie no form to work with and drape with) the top portion came out the way i wanted but the bottom came in too narrow.. but i think it was really cute on. I am also working on knocking off a cropped knit top from Contempo Casuals (can you all please give this amazing chain a shout out please! AMAZING SHIT!) also will be posting a photo if it is not picked up either.
Anywho enough about work.... the girls at work decided to make some dinner at Alyssa's place, kinda of a potluck.... veggie pasta, salad, guacamole, chips, hummus, broccoli, cheese, wine spritzers, uno and arm wrestling.... Uno game.... Stephanie one the 1st round and i won the next..... Arm wrestling... Stephanie beat all the girls even with her left arm. :(

02.28.09 no shit sherlock
so today i went to the urbn sample sale.... which consisted of all home items; lamps, tables, kitchenware, house ware, prints, pillows, rugs, fabrics, chairs....etc.... just home stuff... no clothes.... I was soo excited... i heard urban legends (excuse the punn) about it... how when a girl lost her shoe when they opened the doors and kept on running.... how it is like running of the bulls thru the doors when they fling open the doors to let you in... I did not believe them...no way... I had to experience this sample sale no matter what cuz i missed the 1st one when i first started..... so anyways... Courtney comes to pick me up at 8 and we head over to the navy yard. we get there about 8:30-ish am and wait in line. there were probably about 20 people before us, which is not bad. In the 30 minute wait, i think i lost all my toes in frost bite cuz it was soo f***ing cold out there.... i mean don't get me wrong.... it could have been waaaaaayyyyy colder but thank goodness it wasn't.... (i am just ranting.... let me do it please...) so anyways..... the doors finally open.... and what do i see.... everyone rushing for the door.... at first i rush to the door also cuz i don't need someone pushing me towards the door.... but when i get in i start to walk.....(btw the sale is at the end of the warehouse) about 1/4 of the way in i start to see some of my co-workers say RUN OANH RUN! So i still see people running... i am just F it and just run too..... when i finally get there, i start to leisurely walk and browse..... while everyone else is just rummaging thru the boxes and throwing stuff everywhere....realizing i should be be leisurely browsing and be more like all the other girls there... just grabbing and stuffing no matter what it is... but by the time this brilliant idea flashes in my mind.... it is about too late.... i had about 10 pot holders. I am a sad case. But i still look around, then i see a little corner where a girl i just throwing stuff into the corner that she did not want.... GOLD!!! i rummage thru the pile and i come out with about 10 pillows, a curtain, a Vietnamese cookbook (go figure!), a rug, and all the potholders and dish rags i already had. I totally did not need all these pillows but i grabbed them anyways to see if my friends wanted them... and yes they did.... I ended up only taking two pillows.... look at my finds.... all for $30. Not bad... all at least $200 in the stores... a few items have sample written on them but who cares.... it makes it more special.... i say that to myself all the time! hehehehhehe
okay this is just gonna be a rant. so a few days ago i talked to matt about his up coming trip to costa rica. which he is leaving for the 1st weekend of march....which is around the corner.... He and about 6 other people are doing a back packing trip for about 10 days there. So a few days ago he was just saying that he needs to buy a back pack and supplies for the trip. So he was talking about this backpack that is supposedly amazing and is a really great price online but wanted to try it on first before making the purchase.... so i told him he should go to a outdoors-sy store and try different backpacks on or just get something at target.... i mean he is only going on one backpack trip that he knows of so he should just get one from there.... blah blah blah... qlty.....blah blah blah......cheap......blah blah blah.... ease of getting my shit for the perfect photo....blah blah blah.... excuses excuses excuses..... so when i got home from the sample sale.. i asked him if he got his backpack...and he says no he didn't. and a bit of nonsense talk, i go up to my room and head out to go buy tshirts at the thrift store and target. At the thrift store i get some tshirts and some jeans for myself.... weighing all about 7 lbs... I really did not need to go to target at all but i really wanted the Zone bars... The weekend before they were all out.... so thinking these were sooooo limited i had to go check if they had any today.... They are amazing! I am not a fan of dark chocolate whatsoever but.... these bars are amazing! try them out!!! And i also get some Brita filters and a lamp. I tried to find one at the sample sale today but did not find any that i liked.... So i decided to buy a floor lamp at target for $19.99. So at this point... i leave the store with all my purchases in my large Duffie bag over my right shoulder and my small duffle bag on my left shoulder and the floor lamp held up close to my chest.... TAXI you say.... you think... but i am soo lame... i walked it all the way home.... i did get quite a work out....
So i finally get home and matt is still at his computer doing whatever he does... and i head up to my room. then i start to over hear his phone call... saying some in the lines of..... bullshit.... $65 or overnight shipping.... that is bullshit..... ummm......... yeah..... i will leave it at that.

02.22.09 oh rainy day
so not so much happening today expect later in the day i am gonna go to Ali's place to make some spring rolls. AHHHH haaaaaa yummy.
I am not supposed to meet up with her until 3pm so i had about 3 1/2 hours to burn before i meet up at with her at the supermarket. so i decided to walk to target and jo-mar just for the hell of it. It was sprinkling just a little bit when i went to church, so i had to bring my umbrella and beanie just in case. I took a few photos on the way to target and tried to take more photos of the neighborhood-as requested by jeri. Not very good photos but its the jits.

On my way to jo-mar it starts to just sprinkle a little.
Side note: I hate the feeling i get after i get indoors after it rains, i feel dirty. But something about the sprinkling today just made me feel at peace and free. It was kinda weird but it did. So i get jo-mar and spend way too much time in there buying fabrics that i cannot possibly carry home, $38 later (complements of work) i went off to Target for some shampoo and a pumice stone. walking to target it started to sprinkle a little bit more than before so i had to use my umbrella in the hopes of not getting drenched. After target i was debating on whether to get a can home or not cuz it was sprinkling a lot at that point, but not raining! I walked to the i-95 over pass and saw a taxi pass by but i was too far to flag it down. When i passed the i-95 i just decided to walk the rest of the way home. It was actually a great walk home, i was on my own, listening to Beirut and humming along, with a large duffle bag on my right shoulder, a plastic jo-mar bag in my right hand, a hand bag on my left shoulder, and my umbrella in my right hand and not in use cuz it was too much for me to handle. Other than the duffle bag always sliding off my shoulder every other block, it was a very peaceful walk home. Will most def do this again if it sprinkles like this again.

side note: after watch the oscar's at ali's place i went home and i decided to pick up this little small plastic package outside my bedroom door next to the hallway closet. It has been sitting there for the past few days when i decided to move all my large coats out to this closet. I pretty much paid no attention to it, and thought it was nothing.... until i picked it up today..... please do not make me explain........ NOT JUDGING!!! added photoshop goodness to have a better effect! haahhahahah

so was pretty boring, all i did was pretty much eat and much all day long at work and made a top and 3/4 of the way done with a dress. Not to bad in a day. I am usually happy with just finishing one garment. Well anywho i was hitching a ride home with Courtney (she is my ride home at night, its awesome! she saves me $1.49 each day!) anywho on the ride home, i get a call from Matt (roommate), i was not gonna pick it up but i felt bad so i did, boy i should not have picked it up. Picked it up and he asked if i was home yet and i said not yet, and that i would be home in like 15 minutes. So he asks if i can turn on the dryer for him and said that if i can open the dryer door to loosen the sheets so that it all get fully dry)....... umm...... apparently i am the maid in this f***ing house!

02.08.09 the warmth of the sun
so last night i went to bed pretty early considering it was a Saturday night.
I was pretty much tossing and turning all night. It has been pretty much tossing and turning every night since i moved here. Not sure why but i keep waking up in the middle of the night, probably about 3 times a night. But any who, this morning i wake up to the blazing sun rising. It is pretty early at this point so i just curl myself back into bed and fall asleep again until i really have to wake up for church. I am thinking about an hour later i start to sweat a little but and wake up and am blinded by the sun shining thru the blinds. I am obviously pissed that i am sweating but then i think to myself... OMG it is actually warm outside? I open the window and low and behold.... the weather is light jacket weather... got sooo excited that i got ready for church and walkout with just a small fleece jacket.
After church i walk to Acme (supermarket) and get some food.... food i obviously did not need and then walk to the Vietnamese supermarket for some fruit, that i obviously did need. When i get home i notice that Jessica had called me to come out for some coffee and gossip at B2. I am always in for some gossip, so i head over to hear the gossip and judge a little. I get there and Jessica and Danielle are sitting at the very back corner of the cafe and i order an everything bagel with cream cheese and sit down with the girls. They tell me about their crazy night last night and are upset that i did not come out. Which was going to a sobriety party in a white limo, ditching some friends in neons outfits, skinny girls talking about how fat they are, and having a rondevu in a very very old bar in Olde City. But this gossip did not last for long cuz the girls got distracted from...ummm... pretty much every single boy that walked into the cafe. It didn't help that i was facing the wall and the girls were facing the door. Just my luck. Well, long story short, the girls went crazy for about 30 minutes about who ugly their girlfriends were and how they need to be dating those boys, and some dirtiness in between that can not be blogged about.

02.07.09 directtv scam
so.....i thought this was pretty noteworthy.
today i had an eye appointment at 10:30am. I got all ready and opened the front door to see a direct TV guy right there..... I about just died for that second cuz i had no idea who the f it was. then he explains that he is with direct TV and asks for Matt my roommate. So i go back into the house and yell for Matt who was still sleeping. go figure..... well when i went to go yell for him, the two guys from direct TV just walk right in after me... which i thought was weird... well after Matt comes down i bolt and head for my appointment.
I walked to my appointment, it took about 15 minutes to get there. I get to the store and i have to knock to tell them to buzz me in.... i know i know what you are all thinking.... ghetto!!!, but this is where i live now :( Well, i get in and these two south Philly ladies start to speak very loudly and proceed talk my head off..... but am i scared off....nope.... i start to yap yap yap my mouth off. about what you may ask.... well... about my nerdy glasses, which the ladies say that is soooo in right now..... i am sooo stylish. hahahah, they especially loved the tape on sides.... but it totally not to look cool it is to keep my glasses in tact. SERIOUSLY! i try but i don't try that hard! well any who, i go into the back room and get my eyes checked and here, they optometrist asks what i do for a living and i told her i work for urban and she tells me that she went to school with Meg-who is one of the owners and the founder of free people!!! craziness.... all in all, we talked about how she wants to design and how she loves interior designing and how i want a hobby besides sewing all the damn time.... and that i want to do something else besides design in the future..... i really do..... i love love love design....but at the current moment... i want to have other interests besides this.... i might do some artwork to keep myself busy... but am not gonna buy any supplies. I am just gonna use found objects and items i already have... we will see how it goes. wish me luck!!!!!
After the exam, she tells me my left eye drifts to the left a little when i look straight ahead.... GREAT NOW I HAVE A LAZY EYE! :( wait... i think that is awesome! ehheheheheh well with this great news, i leave with a new prescription, the left eye a bit stronger of a prescription and the right eye the same.. Whoooooorahhhhhhhh! The grand total, $45 but i wanted to but lenses in my vintage frames it would cost $100, but i told the ladies my sister (thu) is an optometrist and she will put the lenses in for me for free!! heheheh GREAT JOB THU! i lie like there is no tomorrow here! I am a monster! that's why my name is KIM here hahahhahahah
So i leave and walk back up Broad st. which is a main street in Philly. So on the way back up Broad i decide to go into the Philly free library and see if they have any dvds. And just my luck they have DVDs, i apply for a card and get 3 dvds to talk for the next 7 days! awesome!
So i finally get home and Matt is still there and he tells me that what happened with the Directtv guys. He said that since they can not drill into the roofs anymore b/c of leakage problems, they have to build a small platform to put the box on that will cost an extra $100 cash, and that is the only solution. But then the guys say that he can call Directtv and negotiate the price. So he then agrees to the small platform and the guys ask where the closest home depot is. WTF So he tells them where it is and they go off and buy the supplies.... So at the point... he is really annoyed and calls directTV where he finds out that these two guys have been scamming him. Well at this point i am scared for him when the guys come back to the house, he will be all alone to tell them to go away cuz he called DirectTV and found out they were scamming him. But did i feel bad for long, well, no i left about 5 minutes later to hang out with some girlfriends from work. huh...
So a few of the girls from work and i decide to rent a Philly car share for about 6 hours to do some errands, go thrifting and go to a craft fair. Obviously i got tons of stuff i did not need, here is what i bought thrifting......

today i had an eye appointment at 10:30am. I got all ready and opened the front door to see a direct TV guy right there..... I about just died for that second cuz i had no idea who the f it was. then he explains that he is with direct TV and asks for Matt my roommate. So i go back into the house and yell for Matt who was still sleeping. go figure..... well when i went to go yell for him, the two guys from direct TV just walk right in after me... which i thought was weird... well after Matt comes down i bolt and head for my appointment.
I walked to my appointment, it took about 15 minutes to get there. I get to the store and i have to knock to tell them to buzz me in.... i know i know what you are all thinking.... ghetto!!!, but this is where i live now :( Well, i get in and these two south Philly ladies start to speak very loudly and proceed talk my head off..... but am i scared off....nope.... i start to yap yap yap my mouth off. about what you may ask.... well... about my nerdy glasses, which the ladies say that is soooo in right now..... i am sooo stylish. hahahah, they especially loved the tape on sides.... but it totally not to look cool it is to keep my glasses in tact. SERIOUSLY! i try but i don't try that hard! well any who, i go into the back room and get my eyes checked and here, they optometrist asks what i do for a living and i told her i work for urban and she tells me that she went to school with Meg-who is one of the owners and the founder of free people!!! craziness.... all in all, we talked about how she wants to design and how she loves interior designing and how i want a hobby besides sewing all the damn time.... and that i want to do something else besides design in the future..... i really do..... i love love love design....but at the current moment... i want to have other interests besides this.... i might do some artwork to keep myself busy... but am not gonna buy any supplies. I am just gonna use found objects and items i already have... we will see how it goes. wish me luck!!!!!
After the exam, she tells me my left eye drifts to the left a little when i look straight ahead.... GREAT NOW I HAVE A LAZY EYE! :( wait... i think that is awesome! ehheheheheh well with this great news, i leave with a new prescription, the left eye a bit stronger of a prescription and the right eye the same.. Whoooooorahhhhhhhh! The grand total, $45 but i wanted to but lenses in my vintage frames it would cost $100, but i told the ladies my sister (thu) is an optometrist and she will put the lenses in for me for free!! heheheh GREAT JOB THU! i lie like there is no tomorrow here! I am a monster! that's why my name is KIM here hahahhahahah
So i leave and walk back up Broad st. which is a main street in Philly. So on the way back up Broad i decide to go into the Philly free library and see if they have any dvds. And just my luck they have DVDs, i apply for a card and get 3 dvds to talk for the next 7 days! awesome!
